Database Optimization and Repair
As technology advances and IP cameras with higher video resolution and data sizes become more affordable, efficient database management becomes a necessity. That’s why firmware v4.0 introduced a new database architecture to make sure your recorder stays futureproof.
After upgrading to v4.X, it’s important to convert and optimize your recorder’s database. If you’re having issues with playback not being found, don’t worry! Just follow the procedures and scenarios below to perform a “Database Repair.”
Preparing the Upgrade
Before you proceed with the upgrade, we highly recommend exporting your NVR configuration file either over the network or onto a local USB drive. This will ensure a smooth transition and minimize any potential data loss.
Upgrading from v3.4.92 build 170518 or Older
To ensure a successful upgrade, all recorders must first reach v3.4.92. Upgrading directly from versions older than v3.4.92 to any version of v4.X may cause the recorder to fail. So, please be cautious!
Once your recorder is at v3.4.92, we strongly recommend performing a full factory default before upgrading to any version of v4.X. Failure to do so may result in unit failure, which would require RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization).
After resetting to factory defaults, you can proceed with the upgrade to v4.50.00. Once the upgrade is complete and your recorder is reprogrammed, it’s a good idea to perform a Database Repair. Check out the “Database Optimization and Repair” section above for detailed instructions.
During the repair process, you can monitor the progress by checking the HDD status or searching the recorder log for repair started and stopped entries. Please note that while the HDD is being repaired, new recordings will still be made, but some existing recordings may not be searchable until the repair is complete.

Upgrading from Any v4.X Build to v4.50.00
Great news! You can upgrade from any v4.X build directly to v4.50.00 without any intermediate steps. However, we highly recommend exporting your configuration before performing the upgrade. This will allow you to easily restore your settings after the upgrade is complete.
If you’re upgrading from any version of v4.X that is not v4.22.005, we recommend performing a Database Repair. Simply follow Step 4 and onwards in the previous section to ensure the optimal performance of your recorder.
Downgrading? Not a Good Idea
We have an important piece of advice for you: downgrading is not recommended. Due to the constant addition of new features and parameters, downgrading may cause your NVR to factory default itself or require a manual default to operate properly. So, it’s to stick with the latest firmware version for the user experience.
